David Thompson, Sales Executive

I live in Castle Douglas now but spent my childhood growing up in New Zealand.

Growing up in and around farms and with my father being a fertiliser salesman, I always imagined myself doing something similar. The opportunity arose nearly three years ago now to join Fullwoodhead and the rest is history.

I think that growing up in a farming family also gave me the passion to work alongside farmers and do what I can to make their lives easier.

That’s how I think of my role really. Yes, I am a salesman, and I really enjoy the job because I’m a real people person, but at the end of the day I am providing top quality products that solve problems, make financial savings and make the lives of farmers easier.  Working so closely with farmers as part of my role really does have a positive impact on their farms. I make a point of ensuring that I know as much as I can about the products we sell (by reading up, chatting to suppliers or visiting the online information portals that some of the manufacturers have) and I will never sell anything to a farmer unless I truly believe that it is the right solution for their business.

I spend nearly every day on the road in the pick-up that doubles as my office.  You’ll find brochures from a range of our great suppliers as well as some cans of energy drink and some rugby kit (I coach the local rugby team in my spare time). I love being out and about meeting farmers and working alongside them to offer advice and find solutions. It’s important to me to get to know people and their needs.

At the moment I have two favourite products. The Dairypower Slurry Aeration System is a great way for farms to save on fuel, labour and fertiliser by keeping the slurry consistent and spreadable 24 hours a day and full of nutrition due to the beneficial aerobic environment.

I also love the Holm and Laue Milk Taxi which enables consistency of temperature, quality and quantity for feeding calves, again reducing labour and giving calves the best start possible.

These products are two examples of things that really do make life easier and save money on farm and like many others I truly believe in them.

Within Fullwoodhead Dairy supplies I’ve been really pleased with my achievements over the last three years. I have been able to help awareness and sales growth across my area and it’s great to see the business expand. It’s a family run company and I feel well supported by the Directors and able to ask them anything.

Given that I’m on the road all the time, it can sometimes be tough as a ‘lone’ worker, especially during May, June and July when farmers are so busy, but I’m well supported. Fullwoodhead are a great company to work for and always go above and beyond for their customers (and their staff).

Aside from the sales role, I’m always keen to get involved and contribute to the development of Fullwoodhead Dairy Supplies through working on social media content and customers testimonials and so I look forward to continuing to do this going forward.
